Artist Statement
My collection of abstract female figurative sculptures reflects the
evolving narrative in a world where the roles and expectations placed
on women continue to shift and evolve, giving new and profound
meaning to the significance of strength and endurance. I seek to
capture the power, resilience, and unwavering endurance that women
embody in today's society.
The abstract nature of these sculptures speaks to women's
multifaceted and ever-changing roles. They defy traditional norms and
societal expectations, embodying the fluidity and adaptability inherent
in women's lives. Each curve, form, and texture tells a story of growth,
transformation, and resilience.
The textures serve as symbolic layers of protection that women must
possess, not only for themselves but for their loved ones and
communities. They represent the armors that women create to shield
their families from emotional and societal adversity.
Beyond the physical form, I invite viewers to contemplate the unseen,
intangible strength that lies within. My work encourages reflection on
the innate grace and balance with which women navigate their lives.
In a time when women are breaking barriers and shaping the future,
this collection is an artistic tribute to their unyielding spirit. It boldly
declares that strength and endurance are not just essential but
intrinsic to the female identity. It underscores the protective textures
women employ as they navigate contemporary life, serving as shields,
nurturers, and sources of inspiration for their communities.
Biography
Cindy Avroch is a multi-talented artist who began her career by following in her mother’s
footsteps. Cindy’s first love was always drawing, painting and sculpting, although Cindy
is also a trained dancer. While other little girls could be seen carrying Barbie dolls
around, Cindy would be juggling a sketchbook, pencils and an eraser in her hands.
Among her earlier accomplishments, she received a degree in textile design from the
Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, and a scholarship to study at
Winchester School of Art in England.
Cindy worked for many years as a studio artist and then an art director in New York
City’s fashion industry. Her designs were in major department stores and specialty
shops nationwide. Working directly with The Walt Disney Co., Warner Bros., United
Media and Nickelodeon, she created licensed print collections for the men’s, women’s
and children’s markets. Her unique approach and vision, combined with her philosophy
to diversify her modes of expression, enabled her to create and to direct her team to
develop fashion collections that tripled sales.
She left the fashion industry to care for her special needs son and found herself a stay-
at-home mom for the first time. Soon afterwards, she launched a new venture from
home, designing fine art lighting and coordinated decoupage tabletop accessories,
utilizing her original artwork. Soon she was commissioned to create collections for the
Chicago and Longwood Botanical Gardens, The Newseum in Washington, DC, 13
aquariums in the United States and a holiday program for Saks 5th Avenue; it wasn’t
long before her artwork sold in high-end gift and home décor stores nationwide.
She has since returned to her true passion – fine art. In Cindy’s work, you see a
celebration both of the real and the imaginative. Her eye for detail, precision,
composition and color explain why her drawings and paintings have been described as
“spot on,” yet her vision is subtly balanced with the fluidity that is the dancer in her. She
believes that in order to be a great abstract painter, you must be a traditional one first.
This is why on any given day, you can find Cindy in her studio working on a captivating
sculpture or mixed media piece, while waiting for the layers of one of her realistic oil
paintings to dry. Keeping these skills sharp, she advances and innovates her work by
embracing new techniques and mediums.
Cindy resides in Dallas, Texas now, with her younger son, her husband, Michael and
her puppies Lenny and Lucy, who are also her studio-mates. Lenny, Lucy and Cindy
can be found Monday through Friday at her studio in the Design District.
