To define a portrait you have to consider every angle and detail. With Nikki Rosato‘s road map portraits and figures are defined by the absence of the surface they are created from. She is only holding onto the interconnection of lines and structure within the map that define the form. The result is a delicate and frail creation of an ambiguous human figure loaded with symbolism. She further pushes this idea with her series Connectionswhere multiple figures are bound together by preexisting roads symbolizing a link between them. This link can be viewed in two opposing ways of either brining them together or that their connection is unraveling.
