WGNO - Jonathan Ferrara Recognized for Using 3D Printing in His Practice

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — After 23 years of running Ferrara Showman Gallery, local artist Jonathan Ferrara returned to his creative process and debuted his first solo exhibition at his gallery.

Ferrara designed sculptures using a 3D printer, which he partnered with the Tulane School of Architecture to develop.

The sculptures consist of five to 80 sets of Ferrara’s hands that were cast in plaster, then replicated and enlarged or reduced with a 3D printer, and then finished with several layers of paint and other materials.

The exhibition is called “Blooms,” and evokes blooming flowers or mandalas.
