(New Orleans, LA) FERRARA SHOWMAN GALLERY is excited to announce the Autumn 2026 exhibition in its seasonal, online exclusive series. Psychogeography marks the first gallery solo exhibition of New Orleans artist and educator Ben Hamburger. Taking place exactly one year following his gallery debut in the 29th Annual NO DEAD ARTISTS International Exhibition of Contemporary Art, the exhibition runs concurrent with the 30th annual event which first introduced his work to the gallery's audience. Psychogeography serves as a deeper look into the artist's painting practice and unveils twenty-seven paintings created this year. The exhibition will be on view from 1 October through 31 December - fully online with rotating, selected paintings physically installed in the gallery throughout the run of the show.
the artist says of this new series of paintings . . .
Psychogeography refers to the ways our environments shape our emotions, perceptions, and experiences. During meandering jogs and outdoor painting sessions, I look for combinations of color, shape, and light that feel exciting, expansive, or charged with energy. These encounters become starting points for paintings developed through memory, observation, distortion, and imagination. Back in the studio, I often combine multiple vantage points and moments in time, allowing the paintings to shift between recognizable spaces and more abstract passages. Layered marks and varied applications of paint accumulate to create a sense of movement, texture, and time. These unstable landscapes explore how wonder can be found in the banal. Rather than depicting a specific place, the works consider how physical environments are filtered through subjective experience, becoming intertwined with memory, emotion, and imagination.
